So first of all, what exactly is hard water? Well, when water falls into the atmosphere as rain, it doesn't have any minerals in it, and it is considered to be soft. As it goes through soil, rocks, and sand, it ends up attracting a variety of different minerals. Water that is considered "hard" contains a lot of mineral salts, such as magnesium ions and calcium. The hardness of water is measured based on grains/gallon. The range of hardness can start at 1 and go to 10 and above. In many cases, hard water really isn't harmful to your health, but it can cause other problems that you need to be aware of.

Without a chlorine water filter, you are exposing yourself to serious health risk, whether you know it or not. I'm shocked that authorities don't even encourage people to use a chlorine water filter at home. I guess they'd rather have people think that the water they're drinking and bathing in is safe. According to several water purifier reviews we've conducted, there are many different systems out there that do not live up to their hype. While just about any type of filtration system will remove some unwanted elements from your drinking supply, some will definitely do the job more efficiently and more effectively than others.
One water purifier review focused on distillation and reverse osmosis systems. Distilling is an old process of heating H20 into a steam, which boils away impurities, then converting the steam back to liquid. Unfortunately, some chemicals and diseases are not removed and end up in the drinking supply. Reverse osmosis forces H20 through a fine membrane: the problem is that many chemicals are molecularly smaller than water, therefore are not strained out. Both systems are also slow-yield, hard to maintain, and expensive. Additionally, they both remove important minerals such as potassium and calcium.
Other water purifier reviews focused on the most popular filtration medium: carbon. Most of the best H20 treatment systems employ activated carbon. It works through the process known as adsorption where liquids and dissolved solids adhere to the surface of a solid medium (carbon).

Here is how to make it: Dissolve about 1 teaspoon of citric acid crystals in one 250 ml glass of water and add this water to one litre of 3% fat milk.( uht milk wont work, and nor will pure buffalo milk; and if you use whole milk the fat will just go away with the whey ). Heat this milk slowly till it starts to split and when most of it has split, turn off the heat and allow the coagulated milk to settle.. The coagulated milk is the paneer and the remaining water is the whey ( some people use the whey to make buttermilk, or in making dough for their bread/ chapati/ biscuits ). Then filter out the whey through a seive ( such as a large tea strainer, i dont like to use a cloth ), add some weight to ensure that the whey is fully expelled.. this might take about one hour .. Eject the paneer onto a plate, cut into peices and EAT ! Note : it is not necessary to fully boil the milk, and in fact if you do, then all the fat will melt and go away with the whey and result in rubbery paneer. uht milk wont split .. and even if it does it will be unsatisfactory; lime will leave a limey smell and taste which may not always be acceptable.

I recently completed a review on the Seychelle water filter products. I got a few questions on the different types of products they carry so I wanted to provide a quick review of the different products we offer.
All these filters will come in either a standard or advanced filter that contains Seychelle's unique ionic absoprtion media and the BioSafe. We won't go into the the specifics of how these filters work at this time. The advance filter basically adds a safe iodine compound.

We show how to purify aluminum nitrate and strontium nitrate by recrystallization. This is important because those two substances must be extremely pure for our upcoming video on making glow in the dark powder. First make aluminum nitrate from our previous video: www.youtube.com Dissolve the dry aluminum nitrate in water and filter off any insoluble materials. We could not filter it off before it dried in the previous video because the particles at that stage are much too small. It needs crystallize once to aggregate into particles large that can be filtered. After filtering, dry off the aluminum nitrate. The desiccator bag might be useful here: www.youtube.com After drying, carefully weigh out the crystals. Then take that mass and add in 20% mass of water. So if you have 50g like me, you add 10g of water (or 10mL since density is 1g/mL). It won't all dissolve, so carefully heat the mixture until it dissolves. Then cover it and let it cool down. Eventually it'll crystallize out purer crystals. After the mixture cools to room temperature, and left for a few hours. The liquid is poured off and discarded, it has the impurities and is not needed. The crystals are again weighed and once again they are recrystallized with 20% water. Once this is done. Dry the final product. I started with 50g and ended up with 17g. But now it's very pure. Better than 99% Strontium nitrate also needs to be purified. But it's solubility doesn't change that much with temperature so we'll have to ...

Drinking Water Filters - How They Compare in Effectiveness, Required Maintenance, Speed and Cost
In this article, we will look at reverse osmosis, distillation and multi-media block filter systems. You will discover drinking water filters vary widely in effectiveness, required maintenance, speed of filtering, and cost per gallon of filtered water produced. You will also acquire the information you need to choose the best drinking water filter system for your family.
In my opinion, you can pick any of the drinking water filters, outside of your own body, and it is a good one. But some are much better than others.
First, let's look at the reverse osmosis (RO) system.
This system works by forcing water, under pressure, against a semi-permeable membrane which will remove any particles larger than a water molecule. At this stage the RO filter is really just an inefficient, costly pre-filter because:
1. RO systems won't remove chlorine, pesticides or many other toxic synthetic organic chemicals, whose molecular size is smaller than water's so they must be use in conjunction with carbon filters.
2. Even under the required water pressure, two-thirds or more of the water molecules cannot be forced through the membrane and go down the drain as wasted water.
3. RO systems are slow, yielding less than one gallon per hour of filtered water and, consequently, they require a storage tank to give an adequate supply of water.
4. The membrane in the filter will remove metals such as lead, but it also removes minerals our bodies need such as calcium, potassium and magnesium making the water acidic which some health officials consider "unhealthy" water.
The RO system requires considerable maintenance and produces comparatively expensive water at about 18 to 24 cents per gallon.
Next up is the distillation system (D)
Distillation is similar to nature's recycling system. In nature the sun heats the water; it evaporates and rises to the upper atmosphere, condenses in the cooler air and falls as rain.
In the D system, water is passed over a heated coil, the steam rises, goes into a cooling chamber (where the contaminants remain), and condenses back to a liquid.
This system is very effective against bacteria. Any bugs chlorine might have missed such as cysts like Cryptosporidium and Giardia (bad bugs), will be zapped by distillation.
And, yes, the D system will get the lead out, but, like the RO system, it removes the healthful trace minerals as well.
Again, like the RO system, chlorine and other toxic chemicals sneak by because they vaporize at a lower temperature than water, go up into the cooling chamber, condense and return with the water. Also, like the RO systems, D systems must be used in conjunction with a carbon filter.
Distillation, like reverse osmosis, is slow and wasteful, wasting up to 80 percent of the water used. Distillation produces filtered water at a cost of 20 to 26 cents per gallon.
Lastly, let's look at multi-media block filters.
In the earlier version of these filters, water was simply forced through a cylinder filled with granular activated charcoal (GAC), or carbon. Activated charcoal was used because it was recognized by the EPA as the best filtering media for removing chlorine, volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and synthetic organic chemicals (SOCs).
However, these first systems had a tendency to:
1. Allow some water to flow between the filter's walls and the carbon, so, not all the water was filtered and,
2. There was some concern about these filters not being capable of removing the tiny microbes such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia, or the more difficult to remove chemical compounds.
Both of these issues were resolved with the introduction of multi-media block filter technology.
This technology utilized the advantages of the activated carbon by making it a part of a blended filter media with a sub-micron structure that is extruded or formed into a solid block.
This multi-media block filter system:
1. Removes VOCs and SOCs, which, by the way, make up most of our pharmaceuticals and prescription drugs, herbicides, pesticides, etc. that are increasingly appearing in our water systems, and,
2. Removes the tiny microbes and the more difficult to remove chemical compounds and,
3. The solid block construction prevents the water from channeling around the filter media.
Multi-media block filtration systems have now come to the forefront of drinking water filter technology.
These filters work simply, (no pumps or storage tanks are required). They are efficient, quick and very economical, producing a steady supply of good, safe water for less than 10 cents a gallon.
In my opinion, they are by far the best choice of the home drinking water filters.

A good filter on will use a two stage filtering process, this is because no filtering material is capable of remove all the contaminates in one pass. One pass will typically use something like charcoal to remove the chlorine, and the second pass filter media should remove the VOC's and THM's.
